The Authentic Collection was launched by Wm. Cadenhead in 1991, and included whiskies from several rare closed Scottish and Irish distilleries, bottled for the company's 150th anniversary. It would later go on to become a mainstay of their portfolio, as the cask strength alternative to the Original Collection, which replaced their famous "dumpy" bottlings in the early 1990s. The Authentic Collection is now the flagship Cadenhead brand, and one of the most recognisable independent labels on the market.
One of 270 bottles.
Highland Park is one of the two whisky distilleries on the Orkney Islands, and the most northerly-located distillery in Scotland. It was founded at the end of the 18th century by beadle and illicit distiller Magnus Eunson. Magnus was later arrested, and the distillery was taken over by a syndicate which, ironically, included Magnus’ arresting officer John Roberston. Highland Park received a licence to distil whisky in 1826. Highland Park 30 Years Old Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection 1988 is a limited-edition release, bottled as part of the Authentic Collection from renowned independent bottler Cadenhead. The single malt was distilled in 1988 and matured in a bourbon hogshead for three decades. It was bottled in the winter of 2018 at a cask strength of 49%. The whisky opens with aromas of gingerbread, cinnamon and baked apples. The palate is very fruity, bringing flavours of tinned peaches, apricots and syrup. Salty sea air, dry heather, gooseberries and lychee linger on the finish.
