The process of selling your bottles through our shop and website

In our shop, we broker the sale of high-value and collectible bottles for our customers. We also have a dedicated website for selling these bottles through.  This is a longer-term route, as we ask that a client gives us a minimum of 6 months to market and sell the bottle. However, your bottle will sit amongst rare and expensive whisky and our marketing aims to draw the attention of whisky collectors everywhere. The process is as follows:

  1. You send us some pictures of your bottles and we complete a valuation. Bottles are valued free of charge as long as you then place them with us for sale for a minimum of 6 months.  If you decide not to leave them, then for valuations of 10 bottles or over we will charge a £50 fee.
  2. If we think that your bottle could do well on our shop then we will offer the service to you, with no obligation to accept. We will also come up with a listing price for your bottle.
  3. Once you have accepted, we will take delivery of your bottle, either by hand if dropped into the shop or we can accept them by post.
  4. Once your bottle arrives at shop, we will have it photographed and post it on our website and display it in the shop. We ask that clients gives us a minimum 6 months to sell the bottle.
  5. When a buyer purchases your bottle, we manage the sale process for you and send you your payment via BACS.

For this service we charge a 20% selling commission. This is a great way of giving your rare and collectible whisky a platform to draw the eye of whisky collectors. It is longer process than going through auction, but the rewards can be great.

When your bottle is on our premises it is covered by our shop insurance.  Should something happen to it that makes it unsalable, as a direct result of it being in the shop, then you will receive the sale price, at current market value, minus our commission. This gives you peace of mind. The insurance does not cover fluctuations in the market affecting price.

Please note that we price the bottles based on our experience and the current market.  We want your bottle to sell so will be realistic. We also are a retailer not an auction house so our prices reflect the retail not auction market.

Whisky Brokering - Buying

Why you should buy through a broker

Buying whisky through a broker such as Robetsons of Pitlochry can offer several advantages, especially if you’re looking for rare, high-value, or investment-grade bottles. Here are some reasons why using a whisky broker might be beneficial:

  1. Access to Rare and Exclusive Bottles
  • Whisky brokers often have access to limited-edition releases, rare vintages, and collectible whiskies that aren’t readily available in retail stores. Brokers typically source these through private collections, auctions, and distillery contacts, giving you access to unique bottles that could be difficult to find elsewhere.
  1. Expert Knowledge and Guidance
  • Brokers bring industry knowledge and expertise, which can be particularly useful for new collectors or investors. They can guide you on which bottles have good investment potential, which distilleries are currently in demand, and what storage conditions to consider for maintaining or enhancing value. They can also help you avoid fakes and counterfeits, which is crucial in the high-end whisky market.
  1. Investment Opportunities
  • For those interested in whisky as an asset, a broker can provide insights on which bottles or casks may appreciate over time. Brokers can help identify whiskies with strong secondary market potential, helping investors build a portfolio of whiskies that may yield profitable returns as they age and increase in rarity.
  1. Personalised Service
  • Whisky brokers often offer personalized services tailored to your preferences and budget. They may handle logistics, including secure storage and insurance for valuable bottles.

While using a broker can add a premium to the purchase price due to fees or commissions, it provides access, security, and expert knowledge that can be worth the investment—particularly when dealing with high-value or collectible whiskies
